Maintain Your Awning Year?Round
Awnings are designed to awning installation weather and other forces that would damage or tear conventional fabrics, but they are still vulnerable to their environment. The following simple guidelines for awning maintenance can extend their lifespan and help them look and perform their best for years to come:
Clean the Awning Fabric
Our high-quality awning fabrics are resistant to marks, stains and mildew, but they should be cleaned regularly to ensure that dirt and debris doesn’t build up on their surface or leave traces of unwanted substances behind. Dirt, fungus, animal droppings and other harmful substances are easily removed by gently washing the awning fabric with a light detergent and water. A gentle brush or broom is often sufficient for the job – however, it’s important to avoid scratching the delicate surface of an awning cassette. For a deeper cleaning, using a soft brush or sponge with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent is often recommended.
Lubricate Awning Movements
Moving parts like the axle, elbow joints and brackets of a retractable awning can stiffen and rust if not properly maintained. Lubricating them twice a year (Spring and Fall) protects against costly mechanical failure, squeaks and tripping hazards. Be sure to clean the awning before lubricating and to use dry silicone sprays that won’t attract dirt.
